Room with a view: main living room

This post is mainly about the process of how this room came to be.

See the finished room here.

Our main living area had some of the fewest renovations, but there were still a few strange elements here. For one there was a planterbox in the entry way. When the previous owners did their renovations it is beyond me why they would leave this in, but they did! There were also some uneven shelves and track lighting.

Fireplace

We worked with a mason to remove the stone shelves and planter box and rework the stone. I found an 18 foot reclaimed solid wood beam, and with the help of an installer and neighbor, the fireplace gained a full length mantle. It would be my dream to whitewash the stone, but my husband gave a big thumbs down, however it is beautiful in its natural state as well.

Rolling storage

The long hearth allowed us a place for extra storage, and we built wooden boxes on casters that store blankets, movies and workout gear.

Dining Room

Like any open concept space, defining the spaces can be a challenge. To create a dining room, I added a light fixture and that did enough to make the space seem slightly its own.

But this room is all about one thing, and that is the wrap around view that feels like you are floating on lake. Swivel recliners are the perfect place to have coffee and watch the eagles look for their breakfasts, or in fall and winter the never ending activity of the ducks and geese. Don’t miss the lake life to see what that is like!

The dining table is from one kings lane and has two side extension leafs we use constantly for large groups. And because we are real people we have kids chairs at our dining table. The chairs were a splurge item, however, they go from high chair through child and the high quality plastic wipes down with great ease. We have had these for 6 years now, living real life, and they are holding up great.

Don’t miss seeing more of the room here and in different seasons.
